(Stick with me for an Enchanted Token at the end)
“A good book, like yoga, doesn’t only stretch the body—it stretches the mind and the soul.”
You might wonder why that bookaholic at your workplace digs himself into a book when the boss plays hard on him. Or your bookish sister buries herself in a book, every time your parents reject her idea of a sleepover at her pal’s place (and you dare not put a toe around her at the moment).
Books help improve your mood.
I believe that reading and writing are the most nourishing forms of meditation anyone has so far found. By reading the writings of the most interesting minds in history, we meditate with our own minds and theirs as well. This to me is a miracle. – Kurt Vonnegut
Beautiful people! That’s only one of the benefits books have on you.
What books are doing to people?
- Help manage stress:
- Enhance communication:
- Better sleep:
- Entertainment:
- Shape Auras:
1. Books help Manage Your Stress.
Yep! You heard me right. You don’t need to take 2 Lexapro tablets a day to manage the stress your toddler gives you. Or the anxiety your school days throw at you. Relax! I am not forgetting your workplace politics.
So, what actually helps you with stress?
- Books, definitely
- Plenty of sleep
- Eating healthy
- Regular Exercises
- Connecting with good environments
p.s. These methods could only help you manage your stress, they are not proved to get you completely rid of all your stress. Infact, stress is a natural human response, it would get you anyway.
2. Books Enhance your Communication.
Do you often find yourself in situations when you know nothing about a certain topic. And it makes you feel insecure about your knowledge? So, you avoid engaging in productive conversations. You might often feel that you don’t know enough. Hmm, don’t worry! Books have got your back in educating you on a variety of topics — so you don’t have to.
“Think before you speak. Read before you think.”– Fran Lebowitz
- Reading gives you topics to talk about.
- It gives new dimensions to your thoughts.
- It helps you understand other people.
This maps your way to a strong communication that sticks in people’s subconscious. You just have to find a book that aligns with your thoughts and needs; it’s that simple.
3. Books help you get better sleep.
Did you know? Reading before bed can help you stay asleep longer throughout the night.
You might be thinking, How?
Cuz,
It’s distracting and relaxing.
Books and doors are the same thing. You open them, and you go through into another world. – Jeanette Winterson
Imagine you are all curled up on your sofa with a cup of coffee in one hand, and a book in the other. As you read the first page, you’ve already forgotten all your anxiety and stress you were carrying 2 minutes ago. Feels like a warm hug, doesn’t it?
Books are the Anywhere doors of your life.
Remember:
- Don’t read for too long, you don’t want to read at the time you should be sleeping.
- Don’t read on your phone, because you don’t want those irritating glasses to dim your striking eyes.
4. Entertainment.
Did you know that most popular TV shows and movies created are based on books? So why not entertain yourself through the original form of entertainment, by immersing yourself in reading, and not by those subsets?
According to Association of American Publishers “AAP” and Publishers Weekly: It’s Fiction that grabs more attention. Because it’s more entertaining, demands less attention and a great way for escapism.
- A good book holds the power to attract your attention and interest.
- Books can take you to new worlds.
- They introduce you to new and interesting characters.
- Provide a way to escape from everyday life.
- Edutainment: Books are also a great way to learn and have some fun at the same time.
Which books will entertain you? Well, it depends. If you are a lawyer, those huge Casebooks are your entertainment. If you are a Psychologist, Human Psychology books are your entertainment. (cool professions, huh?). In case, you are none (like me).
Then, reach a library near you. Find Shakespeare. Read him.
If you don’t like him, it’s okay. Just don’t let a Shakespeare’s fan know it.
(p.s. You don’t have to take recommendations for books. Buy a book that looks cool to you. Start reading it. If you don’t like it. Buy another one. Repeat the process. Thank me later. — if you still are bull-headed & want some recommendations, follow me till the end. )
5. Shape Your Aura — strong, calculating, and charismatic.
Books build on your personality. When you start indulging in books, characters and their characteristics, dialogues, and the lessons each chapter grants, you will begin to adopt these characteristics and feel a change in your personality.
- Confidence: You will notice your confidence levels rising, which stands you out in crowds.
- Strategic Thinking: You will start thinking in a strategic way.
- Stay Calm Under Pressure: You’d learn to make composure in stressful situations.
- Adaptability: You would notice adaptability and pivot in yourself to changing circumstances. Plus, openness to new ideas and approaches.
- Keep learning: You’ll find a liking to constant learning and growing.
- Bonus. : You’d learn Thomas Shelby’s death stare from your favorite fictional characters.
