Atishi is the new Chief Minister of Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislative party has elected her as its new leader. Atishi was currently a part of the Arvind Kejriwal cabinet. She had important ministries ranging from PWD to Revenue.
Since Arvind Kejriwal announced his resignation, there has been a lot of speculation about the new CM of Delhi. But Atishi was at the forefront of the race.
Which community does Atishi Marlena belong to?
Atishi is an MLA from the Kalkaji assembly constituency. She is the daughter of Vijay Singh (father) and Tripta (mother). Both have been professors at Delhi University and belong to the Rajput community of Punjabi background. 43-year-old Atishi is married to social worker Praveen Singh. He is also a Rajput. Both knew each other before marriage. After this, they came close and got married.
Why doesn’t Atishi use a surname?
Atishi’s parents kept her full name as ‘Aatishi Marlena’. The story of using Marlena instead of the surname is also interesting. Actually, Atishi’s father Vijay Singh liked was influenced by Marx and Lenin. That is why both of them together added ‘Marlena’ to their daughter’s name instead of the surname.
Accused of being a Christian!
Now Atishi does not use any surname or title with her name. She has even stopped writing Marlena. In fact, during 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The opposition declared her a Christian due to her surname. The surname ‘Marlena’ also caused confusion, and a lot of fake news started spreading on social media. After this, Atishi decided to remove Marlena from the end of her name.

After Atishi’s name became Delhi CM, her parents are also in the headlines. Swati Maliwal, a former leader of BJP and AAP, alleged Atishi’s parents. She said Atishi’s parents signed Afzal Guru’s mercy petition. A debate has also started on social media about this.
