The Mahindra Thar roxx, launched on 15 August, is said to compete with some of the greatest SUVs. This 5-door model expands on the traditional 3-door model, offering more space and versatility. which is 300 mm longer, improves passenger comfort and cargo capacity. 

Exterior upgrades include a redesigned front grille, LED headlights, and a panoramic sunroof, Inside.

The Thar Roxx boasts advanced comfort features, including ventilated seats,  a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Interior Specs

A digital driver’s display, and a premium Harman Kardon audio system. Safety is also a priority, with six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and a level-2 – 2 advanced driver assistance system (adas) that incorporates adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. 

Performance-wise, the thar roxx comes with two engine options- a 2.0-liter turbo petrol and 2.2-liter m hawk turbo diesel both tuned for higher power output than the 3-door.

The transmission option includes a 6-speed mutual or atomic, with rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations available. Maintaining its off-road prowess, the thar Roxx has a 650 mm water wading capacity and slight improvements in approach and departure angles. 

However, its large size does reduce the ramp breakdown angle compared to the 3-door version. With its combination of adventure-ready features and modern luxuries, the Thar roxx is an attractive option for drivers seeking both comfort and capability in their SUV.

It starts at 11.35 lakh. The lowest price model is Mahindra Thar AX opt hard top diesel RWD and the top model price is Mahindra Thar Earth Edition Diesel AT pricing at 17.60 lakh.  

Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Other SUVs: DIMENSIONS

As shown in the above table, the Scorpion is the longest and widest SUV here, whereas the Gurkha 5 door is the tallest.

The star stands out with its Wellbase just behind Jimmy. The Mahindra Thar roxx gets the largest wheels of up to 19 inches, while lower variants make do with 18-inch units. The Jimny is of course the smallest with 15 inch

Mahindra Thar Roxx Vs Other SUVs: Powertrain, specs

The Thar Roxx petrol comes in two states of tune 162hp/330N for the manual and 177hp/380 Nm for the automatic, using the same 2.0-liter engine.

The Thar Roxx petrol, however, is a lot more powerful than the Jimny that uses a smaller, naturally aspirated petrol engine. The Roxx’s petrol engine also offers the highest torque.

The diesel also offers two different states of tune: 152hp for the RWD variants and 175hp for the 4X4 variants.

This means the power is on par with the higher-spec diesel engine in the Scorpion, although it delivers more torque.

Mahindra also offers this engine in a lower 132 hp state of tune on the entry-level trims of the Scorpion. In its diesel AT guise, the ScorpioN offers the most torque outputs.

Coming to their drive layouts, the Jimny and Gurkha are strict 4X4s, While both the Thar Roxx and Scorpio N can be had in either RWD or 4WD guise with diesel engines.

The petrol variants are RWD only. On the gearbox front, the Gurkha misses out on an automatic gearbox, while the Jimny only gets a 4-speed unit for its automatic.

Coming to their off-road stats, the Thar Roxx has the best approach angle, while the Jimny has the best departure angle.

The Gurkha 5 door, meanwhile, has the best ramp-over angle. Unfortunately, Mahindra hasn’t yet revealed the ground clearance of the Thar Roxx, but the 3-door Thar’s 226mm ground clearance could serve as a reference point. 

Still, it’s the Gurkha 5 door that sits the highest at 233mm. In terms of water wading capacity, again, it’s the Gurkhat edges ahead of the rest.

Mahindra also does not provide the exact approach/departure/ramp over angles for the Scorpio N although it’s unlikely to be better than the other off-roaders.
